The first week of July reminded investors that markets can react just as strongly to economic data as they do to corporate earnings.
The June U.S. Jobs Report became the week's biggest market-moving event. While hiring slowed more than economists expected, the report also showed that the labor market remains relatively resilient. Investors spent much of the week trying to answer one question: Is the U.S. economy slowing enough to support lower interest rates without falling into a recession?
That balance remains one of the most important themes for investors. Although artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and infrastructure spending continue to dominate long-term investment discussions, the jobs report temporarily shifted attention back to the broader economy and what it could mean for Federal Reserve policy over the coming months.
