Lam Research: The Toolmaker Behind the AI Buildout

Summary

  • Lam Research (NASDAQ: LRCX) remains one of the strongest ways to gain exposure to the long-term AI infrastructure buildout without relying solely on a single chip designer. The company’s etch and deposition tools sit directly inside the semiconductor manufacturing process used to produce advanced AI chips, high-bandwidth memory, and next-generation packaging technologies.

  • The AI boom is increasing semiconductor complexity, not just semiconductor demand. Advanced AI workloads are driving node transitions, rising HBM demand, and more sophisticated packaging architectures, all of which increase process intensity and support stronger demand for Lam’s technology.

  • Recent financial results also reinforce the strength of the business. During the March 2026 quarter, Lam delivered record revenue of $5.84 Bn, record EPS, and its first-ever $2 Bn customer support business quarter. Management also raised its CY26 wafer-fab equipment outlook to $140 Bn with upside bias as AI-related demand continues accelerating.

  • While semiconductor capital spending can always be cyclical, Lam’s exposure to AI infrastructure, advanced nodes, memory transitions, and packaging gives the company a stronger long-term growth profile than many investors currently appreciate. That is why I continue to rate the stock a Strong Buy.
