The aBP Weekly: New Highs, Softer Oil, and a Market Still Picking Its Spots

Markets ended the week in a stronger place than they began it, but the path higher was not especially smooth. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq both closed at fresh record highs on Friday, helped by better-than-expected earnings and some relief from falling oil prices. Still, the week did not feel like a clean, broad-based rally. It felt more selective than that. Investors rewarded the companies that delivered, especially in large-cap growth, while staying more careful elsewhere. By Friday’s close, the S&P 500 was up 0.9% for the week, the Dow gained 0.5%, the Nasdaq rose 1.1%, and the Russell 2000 added 0.9%.
