Summary
I am rating Amkor Technology (AMKR) a Strong Buy because I see durable AI-driven packaging demand, a heavy backlog, expanding advanced-node services and a valuation that discounts near-term cyclical noise while offering upside as demand normalizes and AI content ramps.
Growth will be driven by advanced packaging wins tied to AI semis, capacity expansion in Philippines and Korea and stronger pull-through from hyperscalers and foundry partners. Each will flow directly into higher ASPs and utilization.
Valuation looks attractive on a forward PEG of 1.64x that is below the sector median, a forward P/E of 33.90x that trades at a discount to select peers and an EV/EBITDA gap that embeds conservative recovery assumptions therefore room for rerating as AI content scales.
The biggest risk is a macro-driven capex pause from fab customers, with secondary risks including supply-chain disruptions and competitive pricing pressure. Management can mitigate these by adjusting contract terms, prioritizing high-margin advanced packaging, and accelerating non-core expansion spending.
